So with only 4 weddings under my belt "apprenticing", I've encountered something this past weekend that blew my mind. The bride and groom selected a nice package that included 400 proofs. Here's the kicker; they didn't like having their picture taken . You'd think we were giving them a root canal or something LOL! It forced us to be quite creative to say the least.
Anyone else ever run into this before??

Despite all the meetings and prep, on the day some people just aren't into photographs. I had two weddings back to back last week. One couple worked hard and got the results and the other couple just couldn't wait to get on the booze, they were night and day in comparison.

Yeah, I got those couples sometimes...well, mostly it's the groom, the brides always want nice photos and the groom is just tolerating the process lol :)

Believe it or not, it was the bride that was the reluctant one. You could tell she wasn't comfortable being the center of attention. Once the bar opened up and the wedding party became a little better "lubricated", it did get a little better.

Just the nature of the beast. Some couples aren't into it as much as others.

Only a couple of times, I had a bride tell me to shoot the groom's prep instead because she didn't want to be photographed getting ready. That's about it, though.

I gotta be honest, I too would rather drink than be photographed.

many of my wedding clients feel the same way and that's why they usually choose me. I'll do posed if they want it but love it when clients just hire me to document the day. so much less stress.

I suck at the documentary stuff so have to pose 'em to get anything good. But since I know how they feel, I make it as quick & painless as possible. I can do all the groomsmen plus the groom's solos in less than 10 minutes.

That's what separates the men from the boys so to speak. Being able to do those posed shots quick and painlessly AND making them feel comfortable so you can get the shots you need.

Hah I guess.

I shouldn't say I suck at all the documentary stuff. I suck at the random candids. I can never get a good one to save my life. The actual events (ceremony, first dance, etc) I'm pretty good at despite having no direct control. Walking to the car, waiting for the ceremony to begin, etc...yeah I'm horrible.

just wanted to clarify I was meaning YOU were the "men" in my statement. I think documentary is easy because you don't have to do anything. therefore I have more respect for those that can get people posed and camera ready quickly. I'm not bad at it but I'm definitely better at documenting.

For the OP, most couples that you'll encounter won't want to get their pics done. But most realize the importance of documenting their day and will rely on you to make them look and feel the best they can. it's just a part of wedding photography.

All depends on what style you are going for.

Hey...if documentary stuff is easy and CDI sucks at it, then what are you trying to say man?;)
