Just this morning I bought a 40D, with a bunch of nice extra's. Stumbled into it on a sort-of Dutch craigslist and had an appointment with the guy within two hours to pick it up. Really happy as it's an awesome deal!

Now, let me state that I definitely haven't outgrown my 20D yet; I'm still one helluva noob, but this was a bargain and I couldn't let it pass. I had been thinking about getting a 40D before for the 6.5fps (I like shooting sports) and Live view (I'm also a big fan of MF lenses - often better optics at a MUCH lower price.). Now, the 'low' 5fps wasn't an incentive to upgrade, but I reckon the LV will help me a lot.

Picture of what was included in the deal (just a quick snapshot, the DOF is little thin, I know!):

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Redirected to error image by TINYPIC

Included in the deal:
- Canon 40D
- Canon 85mm f/1.8 + OEM lens hood
- 2 Canon OEM batteries
- Charger
- B+W Slim Circ. Pol. Filter - 77mm
- B+W Slim UV Filter - 77m
- Sandisk 8GB Extreme
- EF-D Focusing screen
- Domke F6 (with some very nice smelling wax)
- Boxes for body, lens, lens hood and focusing screen
- All paperwork, warrenty cards, cables, disks and what not
- Receipts for body+lens

And that for the amazing price of 600€! The body only goes for 375€ second hand, the lens for 275€. Now I just need to sell of some stuff to buy food (college student for life!) Also really happy with the 85mm. Took some test pictures over there to test the lens and I just love it! Dayum! I had used one before shortly and already liked it; but I'm really happy I have one for myself now. 85mm on a cropper is perfect!

EDIT: Was looking up prices for the B+W filters...
B+W 77mm Slim Circ. Pol - 187$
B+W 77mm Slim Clear UV - 178$
I was just like: Holy-moly! Then I looked up the prices in Europe and obviously they're MUCH lower because they're not imported, but still - expensive stuff I can buy a lot of ramen for!
B+W 77mm Slim Circ. Pol - 73€
B+W 77mm Slim Clear UV - 77$
Hopefully I'll be able to sell 'em 50€ a piece.

Really stoked to go shooting tomorrow!

Congrats on pickup. I wouldn't sell the B+W filters if I were you..they are very useful, trust me you will buy them again later if you sell them now~!

By then I'll be dead 'cause I have pretty much no money to buy food now, haha.
But why do you say that? Do the filters actually do something? There's always samples where there's the biggest difference in IQ between a picture with and without UV/Pol. filter, but I was in the understanding that all glass decreases IQ somewhat - isn't that the case here? I don't even know what the filters do. The UV I know, but what specifically does a polarizer do?

Lastly, I don't have any 77mm lens, nor do I plan on purchasing one any time soon. (Primes are the way to go and none have 77mm thread) All 77mm lenses are way outta my budget (and sadly will remain so for the coming 8 years). I'm not looking for fast mid-range zooms, I'm happy with my primes and if I'd ever buy a mid-range zoom it'd be a Tamron 17-50 (not a 77mm filter). The only 77mm I would actually like would be the Sigma 85mm, but I incidentally don't have a spare 950€. The only zoom I consider is a 70-200 f/4 (67mm thread).

So, pretty sure I should sell 'em!

My impression so far:
I LOVE IT... Everything about it... It's AMAZING!
The ISO performance is UNREAL, the ergonomics are much nicer than my 20D's (although not very different), the shutter sounds amazing and the screen is just... WOW! Every time I take a picture and look at it I can see detail and it's nice to look at, unlike the 20D, which sucked. The 20D's screen is super low-res and covered behind half an inch of fortified plastic. I never want to go back... I'm so happy and stoked!

Yeah... shouldn't have started. And now that I got the 40D I'm just like WOW! A whole other world just opened up to me and I'm more stoked than ever going out there to shoot. Previously I would be happy if I'd see nice pictures pop up on my laptop screen - I wouldn't be able to tell if they were keepers on my tiny 1.8" screen on the 20D. Now I know instantly and it's AWESOME! I love the big screen! Never going back.

I'm super stoked right now - I imagine this is a bit what the L-fever is like...

Haha...my suggestion to you will be:

don't try any more advance DSLR or excellent lens in the short future, cause you will be addicted~lol

I'm afraid so... I don't think I will be though - I'm addicted to skiing already. That's still my real passion, but as winter just ended it's time to invest money, because from the summer onwards it's time to save money to blow on skiing, haha!

I would really like a camera that shoots video. Rebels suck, not a fan of the 60D for some reason, dunno why really, and the 7D is way outta my budget... It sucks...

And the current rebe t3i blows the 40D away in terms of image quality....

But it feels like a toy. I'm 6"5 and have huge hands. It's so uncomfortable to hold... I've considered selling the 40D and buying a t2i instead, but I'm not sure yet...

Use your money on a decent lens....a good lens will improve your picture by alot.

Cheapo body + decent lens is better than decent body + cheapo lens
