Because AI Focus is more frequently wrong than closing your eyes and guessing whether the subject is moving or not. :(

Yeah, but at least you have all the control at one button. You can always just keep bumping it. It will still work faster than you can when working between two buttons. Besides, AI Focus is basically all he wants, only to work it manually between two buttons instead of relying on it to work automatically.
May as well just leave it on AI Servo, which is what I do now.

Instead of having to worry about using a separate button for One Shot or AI Servo, why not just use AI Focus instead?

never knew what the mode was to be honest. i got into cameras a couple of years ago to shoot macro's like my internet buddy ( member macrojunkie) and didnt even know how to change the aperature. he told me to set it to iso 100, ss 250, and f/8 (using flash and macro lens) and leave it there. worked like a charm but i didnt get into macro like he did and i soon started shooting everything else with macro on the side and learned everything from the internet (here) as i needed it. i've never had any instruction or even shot with anyone in person and never read a single book on how to use the body. so i only know the very basic functions of the body.

Nothing to see here....

In that event then I seriously recommend taking some time to sit down with the book for your camera. Same for you lenses!.
If you don't have the book you can download the PDF owners manual and sit at your computer to read it.

You've got a very nice camera, and the only way you can take advantage of all it has to offer is learn all the ins and outs, what's what and what's not.

I like when it beeps to confirm focus. So, I use one-shot most of the time.

i think that's the same for me.... it feels strange not having that beep when shooting static things!!

i have custom function 2 on the 5D2 for 'panning' AI servo, Tv, cente point focus etc

i also use back button & also the joystick for selecting the focus points.
