I was shooting this acorn woodpecker today, and its name became obvious when I noticed the tree.

It is generally a dead tree or half-dead tree, and it is generally found in the same neighborhood as the live oak trees where the birds pluck the acorns. The birds pluck at one tree, then fly to the granary for storage, then return.

I have all of the trails staked out, so I know where the granary trees are, and I know where to shoot for early morning light, for noon light, or for late afternoon light.
