I think I am really starting to like the looks of this tripod.

It is a Gitzo Traveler Series 2 Tripod kit. However, I don't want the head that comes with it! Why don't they sell this tripod by itself like all the Traveler Series 1 tripods?

I am planning on using a Arca Swiss QR head. Probably something like the RRS BH-40 or BH-30.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

For half the money, I would look here. Compare the specs.

Buy the 2580 kit and sell the Gitzo ballhead. Get a Markins Q3 or Q10 ballhead with an Arca-Swiss type clamp, depending on the glass you have.

WOW! That's expensive! Here in RIPOFF BRITAIN I paid about $200 more for a GT 3530LS AND a GT2531! Glad to see you Americans don't always get stuff cheaper!
I like the Travellers but they don't go very high without the center column raised and then things can get a bit wobbly - even with a Gitzo! If you can manage the longer folded length then one of the Mountaineer series would be much better IMHO, preferably a 2 series 3 section but the 4 section ones are nearly as good and fold up a little shorter.
Just food for thought.

I have the Gitzo GK2580TQR Traveler 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod that the OP wants, and honestly I am impressed. It is very light weight, and versatile, I am 6' tall and for me it works great. I love the entire structure and I think it was a great investment, it isn’t wobbly at all nor do I get much shake from it, if the surface is unstable I hang my bag of the bottom hook and stability...wualla. It folds on itself and it is small and compact, I take it with me where ever I go. I don’t think you will be disappointed in this and I highly recommend it, as I researched and went back and forth with tripods and couldn’t make the decision for about a year and now finally I have had it for a few months and I love it.

Perhaps I was being a little unfair. When I said wobbly that was meant to be relative to a Mountaineer 2 series, which doesn't pack down as small. Anyhow Gitzo produce are far higher calss (though far harder to detct!) class of wobble:twisted::wink:

You can, but that head is really crappy and they wont sell for much driving up the over all cost of the legs. But yea, it can be done.
