Hi, I would like to introduce myself to this community(1st post), i am a motion designer and vfx artist who lives in Africa ,Mozambique.

I'm going to buy the canon 60d , mainly for video shooting, I'm in a very low budget and I have some things in mind to buy, but i would like to hear your opinions and advices...

lens
now i only have about 2000usd to spend on lens, so i was going for the canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L , and the sigma 50mm f/1.4.
Winch ones you guys think are the best suited for video?I will need to shoot on low light conditions.

audio
I don't understand a lot about audio recording but as am just filming music video clips, i think i only need some gear to get a reference of the audio, but with mid quality.

camera movement
again i have no info at all, but i was thinking about this one "Cinevate Inc CIDSLR000031 DSLR Shoulder Mount with Offset Kit"
and
Cinevate Inc AT10TL0035 DSLR Slider with Legs (35") ( I'm just going for those 2 cause i saw somewhere on the web i think it was "the stillmotion gear list") :D

lighting
2*lowel pro light 250 watt halogen light

other
Reversible Blue/Green MATT Screen for Chroma Key - 12 x 12'

_
so guys I don't understand a thing about shooting video , so i would like to hear your advices about all that gear and what you guys would suggest , again i am newbie so i would like to spend the lower i am able to ...
Thank you in advance.

I shoot video; just purchased a T2i for mixing in with our XHA1s cameras.... The lowell lights definitely great idea. Would recommend a couple umbrellas, and a gel holder, and some gels.

The green screen may be of use.... if you need to put people over specific location footage. Good lighting is critical for this though.

Definitely find a very good solid tripod. No substitue for this. There are times that you must be mobile; so I guess the rig is a good idea. So many extras can get added in though. Must consider an external mike (Rode makes several), a small HDMI monitor... follow focus knob...

I am just getting started with this. Will use the XHA1s for most footage, and try to set up for the artsy shots with the HDSLR. Not sure on what lens I'll need as well. Will probably start with a 50mm 1.8

What rig are you using with the T2i and how are you handling focusing?

Krizard-

It seems like you are off to a decent start. I'm kind of in your situation but I already shoot video. You could ask this question in 10 forums and get 10 different answers. I'll put in my 2 cents.

$2000 is not a lot for a lense budget. Not down on you for that because I know the feeling too well. The canon 24-70 is a great lense but for video autofocus is useless and the lenses are not designed for live zooming. I think the Sigma 50mm 1.4 is a great choice, but for 50mm another more cost effective method is to use an old manual 50mm lense with an eos adapter. Again, for video you will not be using the autofocus. You can get a very fast lense that will perform well in lowlight and still save hundreds.

Also keep in mind that for the 60D, a 50mm will act more like a mid-telephoto, so you will still need a good prime "normal lense". Samyang makes an awesome 35mm 1.4 that will perform well in lowlight and only run you $499. They also make an 85mm 1.4 for under $300. All manual and likely a pain for stills, but with the money you save, you can get practical accessories that will help you a great deal like an HDMI monitor.

This is an examples of footage shot with a samyang 35mm 1.4 on a 60D:

I also agree that a good tripod is essential. I work for a company that refuses to get a good tripod and it is maddening at times. I tend to bring my own tripod at times just to get a decent pan.

I haven't made a rig... looking at maybe finding a Nikon EF lens with adaptor to give better focus options.

I use a manfrotto 3181 tripod with the 501 head; well, it is a video tripod; but gives a rock solid shot using the T2i. This is an older version, they have released a few ewer models, these can be found via ebay still...
