The focus and colour is good. I just think you may have cropped a bit too much off the top.
Flowers are great practice for macro shots. Keep shooting and keep practicing. :)

FREDERIQUE

The flower is very, very beautiful. I love the great range in shades of rose and blue.

But I am not convinced that the focus is right. Maybe it is OK. But... I would have liked a comparison shot with sharper focus an possible a tad more DOF to see the peach fuss on the flower.

The leaves may dominate at 4 & 6 o'clock a tad too.

Beautiful colors. You may need a tripod -- an no wind.

As an image of a certain flower, Colin is right, the crop appears too tight.

But as I see this image you are using the petals as a BACKGROUND and you are forcing us to look at the center of the flower. That is where my eye settles.
I take in the pleasant colors of the petals but then go back to the stigma/stamen complex.
For this, the crop is good as it is.

My only suggestion then would be to select the center complex on the computer and brighten it a little.
If it is the main point of interest it must be brighter than the competing petals.
The Yellow and Green need to be brighter.
While this area is selected, I would sharpen only this center complex and only a little.

Then you have a very pleasing image and even the blurred petals make one's eye go to the center of the flower.

As a photographer you can dictate ..... even compel ..... your viewers to see a subject as you intend it to be seen.

eland, conk & Leighow,

Thank you, I agree with all that was said. This is my first real attempt at this and time was not on my side either. I didn't have a tripod with me and I was so hurried, hungry and on break from class, the next ones will be better.

Big Smile,

Very nice Frederique. A little bit out of focus but nice. The first photo showed more of the stamen which would have looked better in this one. The colour is better here though.

conk,

Thank you, I am a little confused but getting there. You have a nice site and that forum looks great. I will sign up when I get a little better. I want to join the contest, no need to bother just yet. LOL
