It's been a while since I have been in the sports forum. Glad to be back. Here a re a few from my oldest son's Academy team tournament.

All were shot with my 1D Classic, SIgma 100-33mm f4. Various SS as the sun was moving in out of clouds. ISO was at 400.

Let me know what you think of them. Some more baseball photos will follow later on.

Thanks

some nice stuff here. #1 and #3 are a shame since the backgrounds kill what could have been a great shot. #2 is a great sportrait. #4 is the best of the bunch imo as it has everything a good sports shot should have. I like #6 as well since you captured a classic soccer moment in keeping the opposing (and complaining) player in the shot. adds so much context and takes what would have been a good shot and makes it a very good shot. The action is nice in the last two but it looks like lighting changed and no adjustments were made to your settings to compensate and thus, they are pretty blown out.

In pic #7 is that the boy's tongue in the white jersey? Looks very odd. I liked the
exposures in your first 3.

Shooting in the bright sunlight makes getting deep and intense colors very difficult - especially with the colors of some of the uniforms today. Had a game the other day where one team had day-glow green and the other day-glow purple.

I eventually gave up trying to shoot in any kind of strong light and hoped for the sun to be obscured by the clouds. Got many 20-25 shots that were worth printing -- usually will have over a 100+ for a game with lots of action.

Also like that you appear to be on or close to the ground. Best way to shoot these ages. Well done!

Nice action, good angles - very nice shots!

A little nit-picking:
- The first few seem under-exposed and overly contrasty. The black shorts are almost uniformly black.
- Conversely, some of the later shots are blown out.
- All of them seem a bit over-sharpened to me. Could just be me....

Again just minor issues to otherwise great shots!

Perfect in terms of capture. Background can't be helped, but 1 and 3 are great pics otherwise.
Grass is too long, but thats not your fault. :)

Thanks for the feedback folks. Backgrounds at tournaments which is what I am shooting for the team are difficult at best.

Grass was so long it's not even funny. I have no idea how they able to pass the ball!

I think the sharpening could be flickr. I noticed that after I posted them there and figured someone would comment on it.
