Interesting fun photos. But what's with #2? You buy a dSLR so you think you can do photography for hire now?

Not my first DSLR, and I don't plan on doing anything on a paid level for a long time, but I saw an advertisement poster when I looked at those 3 photos together. Is that a crime?

I like #4 but the rest just look like random, fun shots. It's nice that you have someone like that to practice with! Enjoy your new camera! Get some shallow DOF in there.

Certainly not. One thing is that in #1 and #2 it seems like you used 1 photo twice. They may be different but only marginally different that only you know they are different. Something to consider for the future.

There's something about #4 that draws me in, but the others seem more like goofing around shots - partly because they are so small, but mainly because her face is either obscured or severely underexposed in most of them.

By seeing #4 alone, I can tell you have it in you to do much better all around. Keep shooting and posting.

1. Needs fill
4. Looks a tad hot
5. First shot needs fill...compare with second shot.
Overall, interesting poses, ideas, keep it up. DN

I think that you are on the right track just keep up to shoot things and you will achieve the level that you desire.

#4 is a keeper. The others? Not so much. The last one has potential with more fill and different hand position. As Dano_nav says...they need fill. You can hardly see the face. Not sure what other equipment you have, but you should at least turn on the built in flash to fill her face with light.

And it's hard to tell with the small images you posted, but first set looks like it could have some motion blur due to a slow shutter speed.

Keep it up. Keep practicing, and try out some flash for outdoors. On very bright sunny days I hardly ever shoot with out a flash. And when doing portraits, I never shoot with out a flash or a reflector. Light is your friend. But it can, and will, bite you in the buttox if you ignore it. ;-)a

4 is the one I like. 2 and 3 the crooked tree in the back grabs my attention before she does. IMO in 5 the power pole kills the shot.
