I also posted this in the Urban Life section, but do not know how to delete the thread over there. I believe that section is more in line with what I am asking, but, as the last two responses over there are 9 hours and 1 week respectively, I think I will get a more timely response here.....

I have read several of the Las Vegas, Sin City threads in the Urban life and Travel Talk section and have have searched for more. I have written down some places listed to shoot from... roof of Bellagio parking garage, etc... But I had not seen specifics on lens choice with the lenses I have.

So, I have a 60D and the lenses I currently have (the 18-135 and 70-300 in my gear list link are currently under conditions of sale and out of state) are EFS 10-22, EFS 17-55, and 70-200 F4 IS. I would love to take everything in my camera case (pelican 1510), but I don't wanna tempt fate by rolling a case full of equipment up and down the strip in and out of casinos.

I am thinking of one lens and my tripod. Specifically, I am thinking 17-55, but I am afraid I wont be able to go wide enough with it and the opposite true for the 10-22 (not long enough)....

Any ideas and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I just did four cities in Europe almost exclusively with the 17-55. The 50 1.8 got some play, but the 17-55 was the go-to lens for almost the entire trip. I have a hard time imagining that it won't be wide enough for Vegas.

If you can take more than 1, then the 17-55 and 70-200 will be all you need. If you have room the 10-20 will be good too but won't be used as much as the 17-55.

During my trips to vegas I have stuck with the trusty 24-70 and my wide 10-20. I stick with more candid people and building shots though. Haven't really had a need to carry around anything longer but I suspect it depends on what you are looking to take photos of.

Pick up a backback (or shoulder bag) for carrying them around, no real need to call attention to what you are carrying around by sticking them in a Pelican case.

My first trip to Vegas with my SLR included 4 lenses. Then I went to 11-16 + 17-55. Then the third trip I said f-that and brought my S95 only.

My most recent trip 2 weeks ago had my 7D + 17-55 + 580EX II and S95, but 90% of my photos are on my S95. The only photos we had were in the room with the 7D. I'm not bringing my SLR while I'm drunk at the club :D

But it depends what you're doing in Vegas anyway... My last 2 trips have been partying + gambling, with partying emphasized this most recent trip (and probably the next one in July too). If you're also going to be walking around like I have in the past, 17-55 is solid, but you cannot go wrong with a UWA. I loved my UWA those earlier 2 trips I mentioned.

If your only camera "bag" is the pelican than it sounds like its time to buy an actual bag and take all the lenses.

Just take the 17-55 and have fun. Should cover just about everything and be good when the light fades.

I have shot all over the world...

I have shot all over the world using a pair of 1.6x cameras and the combination of 17-55mm and 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses and never truly lacked for focal range.

If you cannot get wide enough with the 17mm, use the 17-55mm lens at a longer focal length for a several frame hand held pano, such as this one using 55mm:

Thanks for all the advice! I was and am still leaning towards just the 17-55 and a tripod for the 4 mile one way strip walk, not including inside casinos and the return walk. My brother in Law picked Bally's, which wouldn't be my first choice, but does put us reasonably in the middle of the action of the Strip.

I have been a few times, but this time I just wanna walk, take some good shots, and enjoy myself. I will mostly take shots of buildings, both inside and out....and the architecture around town. I will make final decision at 530 in morning! Heck, I may take both lenses and use the 10-22 one night and the 17-55 another. Hmmm.

No worries about that happening. Depending on what I see out there in the tv pawn shop, I may come back with a FF. ;)
