Wow I'm amazed to see the difference between LR3 and DPP.

This is one of the leading causes, in my opinion, on why there is such a diversity in opinions on the results from the 7D and other bodies. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

Shoot raw and gradually increase your Luminance NR default settings in ACR as the ISO increase. IMO - you'll get cleaner images when using PS and the ACR converter by setting your 7D to use different Luminance NR default settings for each ISO level. With a little tweaking of the conversion settings by having a different default conversion tied to each ISO my images went from great to fantastic and your can too.

I would suggest that you develop your own set of settings for your style of shooting.

DPP always show the images are sharp. After converted to jpg files they look awful. Canon EOS 7D | Canon EF 85mm F1.8 | Sigma 17-50mm F2.8|Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC USD

The OP is an outstanding photographer. Ive known him for years and hes as good as they come when it comes to understanding photography and the technical aspects of the game. The evidence provided (i.e. histogram) doesn't support that statement. He might have a very good understanding of exposure with film photography, but I cannot say the same thing regarding his digital technique. Frozzy wrote in post #12575643 Is this thread supposed to make me feel bad about myself owning a 7D? It's whatever, i'll work with the noise.. No. Wilt wrote in post #12576192 This simply exemplifieds the old adage in photograph, that SIZE MATTERS. In the days of old, those not satisfiled with 135 would spend money on medium format cameras. Today, those not satisfied with APS-C get FF. History repeating itself once more. That depends if you're trying to do the same thing with 135 as you would with 6x6. Cesium wrote in post #12577246 I can't believe it took 2 pages to get to this comment. Agreed 100%. Take some properly exposed shots and see the difference. EL_PIC wrote in post #12580890 No one needs 130 threads to know the 7D pixel pitch is too small for good photo. That's entirely false. rhys216 wrote in post #12594420 Sorry Lol, ![]() I think there is some inevitable variation in exposure, and subjectively I'd say you example was closer to my previous example of about -4 Stops, would you agree with that? Crop looks pretty clean imo, although cross-hatching is more visible on the non-crop, although I'd say you increased the exposure about half a stop more than you needed to. Below I arranged the images closer together for easier comparison How did we get into a D7000 vs 7D comparison?
