Just to get this right for the last time..

Reputable Online Back Up companies offering 25/50 Gb Free space at present..

There are lots of other companies of good-repute, but they offer less free space at start, but maybe better convenience, synchronization etc..

Anybody interested in Online storage AND Back up ideas, there's a whole list of them with links and reviews, go here:

Please add your own practical ideas too..

**Update**

Well, I've shipped the hard drive off to Kroll OnTrack Data Recovery.

I can't say that I'm altogether confident in this endeavor, as I sincerely doubt their ability to resurrect many of my corrupted files. However, if this is indeed true, at least I can honestly admit to myself that I tried EVERYTHING to get these photos back.

I'll be sure to update this tread with the results when I receive them.

In the meantime, I do have positive news to report: 1. I retrieved two more photos from a printing press who had used my images in a college publication. I am overjoyed to have both of these images back. 2. I have decided that I **AM** going to take more pictures despite this unfortunate event occurring. In the end, my rationale was quite simple: I can either go out and obtain more photographs, or I can sit at home and keep on brooding.

Putting it like THAT, made my choice very clear.

I see you have created your identity based around your photos. Not the healthiest way to live my friend..... The things you own end up owning you.

It's just related to the way we covet things and build our lives around "stuff"....As far as the GF/Wife thing, well, you can't own a woman but in my experience they can definitely own you! Proceed with caution, IMO (but definitely proceed)!

So true! I think this thread has been a lot more about people's perceptions and predilections than just the stuff about backing up and recovering.

Our OP's dismay at losing stuff is understandable and I feel bad for him. But his response to this "calamity" has been strange in my view, and far more sad than the loss of his pictures. I can only hope that he finds courage in the idea that the future holds even greater excitement, and better pictures, than those three years.

It brings to mind Rudyard Kipling's old poem "If"...written to his son...worth googling and having a read of.

And to our OP...all the best for the future, by the way....I trust that photography hasn't lost a fine enthusiast and that you will continue on to great things.

Growing old disgracefully!
