Shane, you are asking these guys to use their time working for you to recover files that a couple of weeks ago you were desperate for.
I don't understand why you are reluctant to pay? Or am I missing something?

Growing old disgracefully!

You're missing something.
I've already recovered roughly 30% of my files.

These blokes are claiming a 10% figure and I have no idea exactly WHAT they found...

That's a big, big problem.

What if they found the files that I've ALREADY recovered?

so how would they know if you've already recovered a file?

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Hmmmm, maybe I misunderstand, but I think they say of all the files 'recovered' they only tried to open about 10%, those opened fine.

They darn well better find the files you already recovered!

US$700 sounds like a GREAT deal. That's how much we had to pay more than 20 years ago...

LOL!!!

"help me recover my files"

"we found 10% of your files"

"I don't want to pay for files that I don't need recovered"

LOL

Moreover, you are calling a company a disgrace that is working hard to help and spening plenty of hours.

....lets not forget how you got into this situation.... funny you calling out a company on data recovery skills when your Data Protection skills are the bigger disgrace.

This company is an absolute disgrace

What a joke.

I would call it a disgrace to say something like that about a honest company, who are busy solving problems for people/companies who have managed to mismanage their data.

Said by a person making this quote:

I'll pay LITERALLY ANYTHING to get this back. I mean that. I'll go without a car, without a phone, without anything I promise.

Cost is not an issue. If its in the thousands I'm going to pay it.

Lol, this thread is still going? I got bored of it after OP failed to take advice given in the first few pages and continued his apparent panicking.

You're absolutely correct; SimplyShane is a "drama queen." The only surprise to me is that he hasn't threatened to take his own life (as yet).

I have been saying this right from the beginning..

This sort of data recovery costs between $700-$1000... They (You) have to pay the salaries of their employees.. and their time..

It was obvious right from the beginning, and more so now.. You are only going to recover a small percentage of your files.. (30-40% maybe and some that are corrupt)

You cold have done all this by copying the whole contents of your hard disk to another. (Not no damage it any more)

And then ran this software on the 2nd disk..

http://photorescue-advanced-pc.software.informer.com/2.1/ (external link)

It had very good reviews.. You can use it again if this happens.. And it's only $100+your time...

I can assure you the other 2 companies are going to charge similar prices...

I said that in this thread once... post got removed... expect more of the same ;-)a

I think it's safe to say that most people who experience this kind of 'tragedy' wouldn't spend the next day+ on a forum whining and going on and on and on about they're just going to quit photography if this can't be fixed, etc...
As far as I can tell, the tragedy was self-inflicted... if you can't look yourself in the mirror at that point and accept your mistakes, you're just going to end up posting drama in a forum...

Sure - ask for help... adding drama is great for TV, not so much for forums... i wish nothing but the best of results to the OP in his quest to restore his data. Hopefully he'll spend some effort to restore something else as well...

and to everyone else - hopefully you've learned how important a backup is!
You can go full out and spend hundreds/thousands and have multiple copies locally and remotely... but you don't really need that... it's recommended, but in this case, just a 2nd copy of everything would have been good, just opens you up to another potential failure later on... but just having a 2nd copy of stuff, on a hard drive separate from your main system, will prevent soooo many headaches...

SimplyShane may be acting like "drama queen." Understandable given the circumstances, some people act without thinking it through, repeating behaviors learned (programmed?!) through the 'wonderful' pushed media, in today's fast-paced, nee frenetic, lifestyles and reactions that are exampled there. There will be an accounting.
