How is your hummingbird population? I normally have at least six and usually twice that number at this time of year; but this year I've only seen one male and one female.

Our weather has been terrible this year. It's been in the upper 90s with no rain since the tornado's in mid april. I wonder if they've headed for cooler weather.

If you have my hummingbirds, please send them back. ;););)

Along creeks and walking through prairies I've noticed about the same population of
ruby throated hummingbirds as in the past years....east central IL. Maybe I can send
a pair your way...I'll talk to them next time I see them.

here in central pa i had 2 that i noticed when we first moved in early this year. i made the mistake of putting orange nectar in the feeder instead of the red stuff and the snobs havent come back yet even though i switched to the red stuff less than a week later.

Nothing to see here....

I have none to speak of compared to previous years...maybe a male will show up for a day or two then nothing for the next several weeks. I'm near the coast of VA.

Our population at our house seems to be about the same here in Central Indiana.

Here in north florida they seem to come and go, we have a long drought and lots of smoke from forest fires, may be affecting them!

Here on the southern NY, Northern PA border we seem to have a bumper crop. We have a dominate male that has claimed our three feeders for his own and at least 4 other males and as many females competing for the same area. Starting at about 7pm the bully will sit on top of the largest Shepard's hook feeder holders and watch the entire yard.
There are plenty of not so good shots on my flickr page should anyone care to look.

I know I've had at least three, because I've seen one chasing the others off the feeder. I have small windowbox feeders and have had to refill every day. THis is not usually the case until mid-August.

There are two females and one male hanging around now. Maybe more will show up once the native flowers start dying off. My new problem is yellow jackets. They've found the feeders and I still haven't found their nest.:mad:

It hasn't been a good year so far for us with Hummingbirds. The last few years we had several that would stick around the feeder constantly. This year we've only seen a couple Hummers that will come and go only a few times a day. :(

It's been a slow year for Hummingbirds around here in Eastern North Carolina as well. I normally see multiple pairs at he feeders, especially in the evening hours. But this year the most I have seen at one time is 2.
As a matter of fact I haven't seen as many other birds this year such as Gold Finches, and Warblers.
We're in a severe drought this year, that might have something to do with it.

I suspect the oil spill in the gulf where the hummers fly over and get water for their long flight took out many hummers. the oil film doesn't just affect seals and waterbirds but many lifeforms.

For several years in East Tx before Hurricane Ike sometimes for days coming North and going back South in their migrations I would have 50 to 75 hummers for days at a time at my feeders. The year of Ike they had left our area an was staging on the Gulf Coast to fly across for the winter. I really believe that hurricane put a big dent in the Tx population, because since then at the normal times they come the most I have had at one time is five.
