So, if only 1 in a Million Chinese sell body parts for iPads, that's still a significant market share...

What's he gonna do with the iPad 3 comes out next year?

maybe someone needs one his lungs or an eye. He probably doesn't need a whole liver either. This kid has enough spare parts he should be able to keep with IPad releases for a few more years.

Good idea. I hear the Bin Laden family is in the market for an eye.

Not that big of a deal, only because the kid bought an ipad with the money makes this worthy of tech industry headlines.

This comment could easily be misread as racism, I'm sure that's not what you intended of course.

My comment or the OP's? I can't see how mine could possibly be construed as a racial slur, so you'll have to explain that one to me.

I was merely referring to how the decision of one anonymous individual is apparently enough to condemn an entire group of people who happen to own the same product as said individual. As if everyone would readily sell off a kidney for theirs.

It was a light-hearted joke meaning that the ipad fanbois on here aren't serious enough about it. Truly sorry that you took offense to it. Wasn't meant to offend anyone. I have to remember that anything said on a forum can be easily misconstrued and likely will be. I'll try harder in the future though I'm certain I'll still screw up often.

Fair enough. We do sometimes fly off the handle too easily over these things. I guess this thread can attest to the virtues of a little level headedness. :D

The media's emphasis on the kid makes in their view a better headline. How about that the media emphasize the group that removed and sold the kidney, and how widespread that is?

widespread? Can't be too widespread, I've managed to hang onto both my kidneys, and I'm willing to bet you have as well.

Selling organs in China is fairly big business from what I've read.

Do you live in china or other developing countries? Of course it's not widespread here...Noone here's willing to sell their's for a mere $3k(not to mention the legality of it). It's huge business in China, India, and other high population/low wage countries.

To us this seems ridiculous but ipad prices are actually higher in China than it is here(contrary to most products which are marked up here and cheap in china, the ipad 2 is selling for double price), the emerging middle class in china is buying these up so quickly which explains the price hike over there. But this kid is not rich, and the ipad 2 is a huge status symbol over there. It's easy to see why someone would sell his kidney when you realize that $3.4k is more than this kid could make on his own after months and months and months of saving.

the above poster makes some good sense.

Cut the kid some slack he is 15 years old, raised in China and just made the mistake of his life. Its gotta be a tough time to be a kid in that country right now. So many goodies shoved down your throat by advertising and giant malls on every corner and little means to obtain it.

3.5k goes a long way in that country.
