24-70L

Maybe not ever, but that's what comes to mind when I think of an overrated lens.

For $100, what the heck are you comparing it to?

It's not nearly as good as the 50mm f/1.2L LOL you can't really compare it with anything, the f/1.8 is in it's own class.

You know.....I honestly thought the same. I've shot with it before. A buddy of mine had it before he moved to South America and sold it off. I just did not see a big difference in IQ between my 1.2 and his 1.0 really.

It'd be a "cool" lens to own (bragging rights & history mainly), but practical application, it is definitely not worth the premium over the 50mm f/1.2L. I agree I did not see a significant difference in IQ between those 2. Again, YMMV.

That's 2/3 of a stop difference, and some serious blur points. There's really nothing else like it, so it's difficult to claim it's overrated. The 1200mm f/5.6 may as well be overrated as well.

Thats true, but lets put it this way. If I had a choice between the 50L 1.0 and the 200L 1.8....Which do you think I would salivate over the most and get it in a hearbeat....granted of course they are in different FL.

50mm f/1.8. For $100 comparison? Many of the MF lenses you can pick up off Ebay for under that much including the adapter.
