too bad 25mm f0.95 on 2x crop is about like 50mm f2 on FF or 30mm f1.4 on APS-C. Kinda kills a lot of the magic.

True.

This gentleman on another board is going through some hoops adapting a Canon TV-16 25mm f/0.78 to his Oly MFT. Interesting results so far.

adorma is doing pre-orders. $599.

Samples seem to make it look really nice: google translated from omuser (external link)

Impressive, The Bokeh is really good on it, nice and silky, And it appears quite sharp, Which is equally impressive

I keep toying with the idea of getting a Panasonic m4/3 cam with a fast prime to have a compact little thing that goes everywhere with me and still offers superb image quality..This lens is certainly not helping

No, micro 4/3 has a VERY short flange to sensor distance, there is no way to mount a micro 4/3 lens like that on any SLR camera because of the mirror....

Also keep in mind a micro 4/3 sensor is substantially smaller than an APS-C one...

Dont be so upset, as mentioned above, the DoF characteristic of a 25mm f/0.95 on micro 4/3 is equal to a 30mm f/1.4 on your 50D

that's true.
why is it that the aperture changes as well?

It gets into a long and complicated discussion, But basically, smaller the sensor, the larger the aperture needed to achieve isolation

Now the smaller the sensor, the easier it is to engineer a fast lens on the cheap and on the small side

With the m4/3 correction, the current 20 1.7 pancake is very close in performance. Is that 1/3 of a stop really worth it for a lens that is so close in FL.

But there are others coming form oly a 45 1.8 for 299 and a 12 f2, more primes for m4/3. There are more interesting for someone that has the 20 1.7 already.

where'd you hear about a 45/1.8 for 299? That makes me a little wary.. I want to see something like the new PL25, but in the form of a fast 45-50 (that's not the current PL45 macro). At $300, I feel they may have skimped on the build (hopefully not the IQ, olympus really should be able to pump out some awesome glass)

i might be wrong but isnt the 45 f/1.8 that Retro-ish lens they showed off?

Not sure on the $299 price though...

As for build, Gotta say Oly's build isnt -quite- as nice in the m4/3 arena from the lenses I've seen, I think Panasonic has slightly better build..Still very plastic though...

4 3 rumors had it, it is not a pancake. So it will be a bit simpler to make, allowing oly to keep the cost down.

But there is the correction factor that makes these lens better. And it works well. So it the 45 1.8 is anything like the 4/3 50 f2, it will be a excellent lens, at a great value.
