The retro lens is the new 12mm f2.

Build is over rate subject in m4/3. I have panny and oly m4/3 lenses and they are the same. Just different finishes to the plastic. The oly 14-150 is a very well made lens and though it is allot of plastic it is a very durable lens. I have been traveling with it and no issue. The whole thing with plastic and m4/3 is to keep the system small and light. A heavier uses of metal will defeat that purpose.

i might be wrong but isnt the 45 f/1.8 that Retro-ish lens they showed off?

Not sure on the $299 price though...

As for build, Gotta say Oly's build isnt -quite- as nice in the m4/3 arena from the lenses I've seen, I think Panasonic has slightly better build..Still very plastic though...

I dunno, the oly collapsable (the original) felt kinda "plastic-ier" than the 20/14-45 I have. Maybe it was in my head cause I was holding it with the EPL1.

ah well, we'll find out in a couple of weeks...

the reason the 14-42mm feels very plastic on the epl-1 as they have a all plastic like the the 50 1.8. But if you look at the other oly's like the 9-18, 14-150 and 75-300 they are higher grade lenses with metal mounts like the 14-42 form the ep1/2. The lower grade lens like the 2 newer 14-42mm are all plastic, the 40-150 is all plastic. But that is what canon does also. Look at the 18-55 and 55-250, good lenses, but plastic as it is the entry level lens.
The new panny kit lens is all plastic as well. People point to the oly allot because they are not uses to a collapsable design.

The 12mm f2 is suppose to be a very high end lens. So it will have very good build quality.

At that pricepoint (around $600), I'd rather get the Panny 20mm f1.7 (I also like the focal length better). It's just unfortunate that Panasonic seem to have stopped manufacturing this lens to give way for this Leica version.

supply ran slow on the 20 1.7 after the earthquake. They are now back instock in allot of places. Do not think the 25 1.4 will replace the 20 1.7. As the 20 is way more compact.

I hope so. I remember looking for 20mm f1.7 around Nov-Dec last year and didn't find any. It could just be because this lens is high in demand. And as with everything after the earthquake, the prices now are around $80-100 more than last year.

Also, I wonder how much Panny would ask for this 25mm f1.4 if they didn't put a Leica badge on it.

Maybe thats why, i only handled the 14-42 Oly... they didnt have any of the other lenses...but i handled it on the E-P2, Which is a VERY nice body

The ep2 has a different 14-42 then the epl-1. The ep2 kit has a metal mount while the epl-1 has a plastic like the new msc lens from the epl-2 kinda like the 50 1.8 MKI vs the 50 1.8 MKII. There are 3 version of 14-42 floating around now.

the newest msc 14-42 is the sharpest and focus the quickest with the msc motor, but it is all plastic.

Here ls a fast c mount lens that popped for sale here at POTN last week:

I just have a thing for this type of glass for MFT. I rarely use the Panny 20/1.7 since getting the Fujian. Amazing piece of glass for $50...

Heres the comparison against the 20mm f/1.7

http://www.dpreview.com …naleicasamplesgallery.asp (external link)

Leica appears to have more contrast, the bokeh looks a bit more smooth as well

The samples are very good, and seems a bit better then the 20 1.7, but sharpness is about the same. Just more contrast.
