Hi guys....

If I connect my 430 EXII on my 1000D and then use Aperture Priority and take a picture , the camera will use settings as IF there is NO flash..???

What I mean is , if I set it to F7 in a night scene with the flash connected...it SHOULD choose a shutter speed of 1/250th of a second (to expose for the flash im using ETTL)

but instead it will choose a shutter speed of 1/5th of a second exposing for the ambient light....

How can I use AV mode and make the camera expose for the flash??

I have been having to use M mode wile using flash.....thanks for any help!

Your camera meter measures ambient light only. It doesn't know from the flash until it fires the pre-flash in ETTL. On many camera models when a flash is attached you can force it to a shutter speed via custom function.

If you want control of both images (the ambient and the flash) use manual on the camera and trust ETTL to come close to doing what it should.

If you want the equipment to decide for you use P.

Av is supposed to work that way with a flash. If you want to use fixed shutter and aperture settings with the flash, use M mode. If you want to use Av to expose the background and use flash for the subject, use Av mode but dial in an exposure compensation of -1 or so.

As mentioned, your camera has a custom function to specify the flash synch speed in Av mode. I belive it is #2 in the menu.
