I'd say the crew were extremely lucky, but all in all it's not something you like to see happen to a valued piece of history. It's always risky flying them vs just putting them on static display, but I really think there's far more to be gained interest wise doing what they were. Seeing & hearing something like it in the air stays with you a lot longer than seeing it in a hanger or on the tarmack. A skill is developed through constant practice with a passion to improve, not bought.
