Second that! I bought a $50 job in Bestbuy, no I am looking for a steady, tight tripod! "Those who stand for nothing, will fall for anything"

I would suggest looking for a head that is compatible with the Arca-Swiss QR plate system. I have a Giottos ballhead that is Arca-Swiss compatible, and coupled that with a Flashpoint carbon fiber tripod from Adorama.

I think it was on sale for $150 or something. Does the job but if you lose the plate you are screwed! they don't have any spare parts what so ever.

If it fits your budget....even if not. Spend the extra money for years of service. 7D - - 17-55 F/2.8 - 24-105 F/4L - 100mm F/2.8 - 50mm F/1.8 - S95 / To see all click here

Shortly thereafter I was looking for a good tripod. I went on ebay and got a Bogen 3011 (pretty simple set of legs) for $50 and then scored a Manfrotto 460MG head for about $40. The Best Buy tripod (as others have stated) is now used only for off camera flash. If I had just a little extra money I would have gone for the 190xprob or the 055xprob legs. SnapFire

So, I should get two separate things aside from a tripod? What does a ball head and plate do? Canon EOS 60D/Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC

Those Bestbuy / Wally-World Tripods make good flash stands though. Thanks! Wow, tripods are expensive. Canon EOS 60D/Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC

They are a bit pricy but it'll be the last tripod you'll ever need to buy. Thanks for the link. Canon EOS 60D/Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC
