I just upgraded from a 300d to a 20d, and found out the hard way that there is no wireless remote reciever on the 20d.

Is the cable the only available option?

It's pretty much the only affordable solution.

You can buy radio slaves like Pocket Wizard, but they are pricey.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Is there a wi-fi option like for the 1ds?

The WFT-1 will work with the 20D, so long as you install the latest firmware on both devices. That said, I don't believe the WFT-1 allows you to fire the camera over the network - its main (and, so far as I remember, only) function is to upload pictures to an FTP server.

There again, I only had a quick read of the WFT-1 manual a few months ago. I really have no interest in the device, especially not at the price charged.

That's my understanding of it, too.

Go to ebay, and you can find the Adidt R3 wireless remote, with 100m range, for about $100. It also works as a wired remote. Shutter button behaves just like the one on the camera, half press and full press action. Jeff Lau sells them from a location in California, and there may be a store in the US also, but Jeff is good to deal with. There is also a guy who sells them from China.

Canon dSLR system, Olympus OM 35mm system, Bronica ETRSi 645 system, Horseman LS 4x5 system, Metz flashes, Dynalite studio lighting, and too many accessories to mention
