May be a dumb question, but just wondering why the fastest shutter speed I can get with this combo is 1/200 and not 1/250? Is this normal.

Yes.

The 5D2 has a slower sync speed than most other DSLR's, which usually sync at 1/250th.

Something to do with it having a bigger heavier shutter?
Not sure exactly.

It's only a small annoyance, and only becomes apparent if your dealing with ambient as well.

You can set the flash to HSS to get around this problem of course.

I usually shoot mine at 1/160th, but only because that seems to be the safe spot for radio triggers. I get the occasional shutter edge trying to sync at 1/200 unless hard wired to the light.

Have you Calibrated your Monkey lately?

Now more than ever we need to be a community, working together and for each other, as photographers, as lovers of photography and as members of POTN.
