really not much crazier than a $1600 + prime but I would only consider it if the price drops a bit and if its crazy good. For now I am pretty much keeping what I have.

true, but 1.2 bokeh and that sort of glass is a different story.
however, a ridiculously improved version of the i zoom, that could replace 2-3 primes, maybe there's a purpose for the price. however, I think it's more "the new canon price" than "that" much better than the old. don't know yet!

We shall see, I like that its lighter and if its in the same league as the 70-300L, 70-200 2.8 IS II I am sure it will be awesome. I am sure that price will drop just like the 70-200 did.
