Heres a pic I took , on a tripod , mirror lockup manual focus remote shutter release....

sadly its a 4 second exposure...the moon is VERY dark so I could not have sped up the shutter speed (higher iso = way to much noise)

anyways what you guys think this is a very dark and moving object!!!!

Honestly, I would have cranked up the ISO. Noise can be dealt with, motion blur cannot. Cool color on the moon though.

Nick , please tell me your settings....the shot below was on my nifty fifty F1.8 1/30th second handheld manual focus 1600iso my tripod was unable to point high enough to take a pick of the moon yours came out 10x better!!!

Any tips on how I get get my camera aimed higher? obviosly ill never get a decent shot handheld but my tripod doesent let me look up very high:(

If your camera has long exposure noise reduction options, that's worth turning on for night sky shots. Perhaps will help with high ISO shots.

Wrong approach. A noisy shot is better than a blurred shot.

The totality part of this sequence (Dec. 2010) was taken at ISO1600. Does it really matter?

what aperture? my lenses are slow...lowest is F5.6 on my 55-250.....if im at 250mm....

you are right about the fact that blurryness kills a photo but even if I went to ISO 1600 I would have been at a 1 second exposure and the noise just kills any detail for me anyways....I blame my camera...I hate using anything more than iso 800!!! The performance of the 1000D using 1600iso on low light objects is unusable...so in this case I am happy with my choice of Blurryness over high iso....my high ISO shots are just dots of red:(

The hole time I was thinking :

Noise = less detail
Blurryness = less detail

Either way im screwd:D

Nice pic above^^^^
