Whats up with this lens. Seems like its the black sheep of lenses. I wanted to get this lens, but I can't find no decent reviews. Can someone enlightening me?

I have one. Love it. Very good sharpness in the centre, falls off a bit around the edges, but over all is damn good for the price. Contrast and colours are great as is the minimum focus distance. It's really amazing how close you can get to your subject with this thing.

I've been using mine now on my 5D II for about 2 years. The lack of HSM is a pain, but the lens focuses fast and without too much AF noise. My biggest gripe with the lens is the two step MF process. I'm not a big fan of the clutch focus ring, but again everything has it's good sides and bad sides. For me the image quality, close focus and smooth bokeh is what sold me on the lens.

Here's a review I found

A pile of ocf gear and modifiers.

Thanks! How do you like it as a macro lens?

Basically the same thread has been posted 3 or 4 times, so if you search you can read the old ones and see some photos. I had the lens for a while. It was adequately sharp wide open and improved when stopped down. The autofocus on mine was a little spotty.

The 2-step switch to manual focus is really not a big deal at all, in my opinion.

It is fun for macro because it will focus so dang close, even though it won't be 1:1 macro.
