Very good sharpness in the centre, falls off a bit around the edges, but over all is damn good for the price. Contrast and colours are great as is the minimum focus distance. It's really amazing how close you can get to your subject with this thing. The lack of HSM is a pain, but the lens focuses fast and without too much AF noise. My biggest gripe with the lens is the two step MF process. I'm not a big fan of the clutch focus ring, but again everything has it's good sides and bad sides. For me the image quality, close focus and smooth bokeh is what sold me on the lens. Here's a review I found http://translate.google.com …igma-1-8-24mm-EX-DG-Makro Thanks! How do you like it as a macro lens? | 5D mark III | 5D mark II gripped | Canon 100L |Canon 24-105L | Canon 70-200L 2.8L IS II | Sigma 35 1.4 | Sigma 50 1.4 | Sigma 85 1.4 | 580ex II | 430ex II x 2 |

I had the lens for a while. It was adequately sharp wide open and improved when stopped down. The autofocus on mine was a little spotty.
