I should really look into that!

I am slowly making progress with my kit. I will be using them along side my Bowen's equipment since I have a sweet deal on it.

However I now seen these packs, and they are by far the most awesome thing to me! Compact, powerful, and I dont have to whine about the light being up all the way up a stand to change settings! That is such a sweet deal!

What made you choose Dynalite? Over say, Elinchrom or Hensel, or what you considered when you bought your lights. I'm only talking about pack and heads.

Basically, I'm interested in pack and heads, but picking a system isn't so easy. Spec sheets don't really tell much, and most photographers use monos or speedlights, so there isn't as much info floating around the Internet.

In my case, I chose Dynalite because of the significantly higher power-to-weight and size-to-power characteristics of the Dynalite packs, and because of the ability to easily configure symmetric vs. assymetric power distribution compared to other brands at much higher prices for that feature. And due to the strong recommendations of working pros who used the easy portability of Dynalite for location portraiture. When I bought my lighting system last (almost 20 years ago) there was actually few alternatives to Dynalite with similar characteristics.

Nice shot Rick!

I was at the Photo Expo 2011 in NYC a few weeks ago and mentioned this thread to the Dynalite salesman. He mentioned they just don't have a big advertisement budget like Elinchrom and Pro Photo... hence going under many photogs radar. It's a shame as I checked-out the latest packs and they are incredibly small, light and built very solid. Very Yummie!

If I had enough money to purchase 2 packs and 4-5 heads, I would have bought them at the time, but the used Speedotron gear fit my budget much better.

My village called. I was told that they missed me.

Speedotron users, untie!

Nice Review on the Dynalites, it is indeed hard to find anything these days on the web about them. I own a 2050 kit (2 2050s w/1000ws Pack) and I was interested in adding the Mola Setti BD to the setup. Do I have to get the 4040 Head to do this? or is there a speed ring (i can't seem to find one) that will allow me to attach to the 2050 head? If I can find a speedring for the mola/2050 setup, would the light be very different from the 4040 setup?

I understand that the 2050 has a recessed head( ie, build in reflector) but in a BD, does all this light just bounce around until it comes out?

I am kinda torn to be honest, between the idea of having to add a 4040 to get access to the Mola, or just getting an Einstein to pair up with it.(which is a slight bit cheaper but I am thinking maybe the same quality range? )

You will need to buy a 4040 head to be able to use a Mola Setti, or any beauty dish, You need a bare bulb flash and the recessed 2050 heads will not work with it. One of the reasons which made my transition to profoto much easier is they only have the bare bulb heads which in my opinion provide a much better quality of light..

What do you think about the Profoto in comparison to your previous Dynalite setup?

If it has a mount it should work. People use speedlights in beauty dishes and they don't have an exposed head. I'm sure people have probably also used the Profoto monolights with the built in reflector in beauty dishes before.

I personally like them a lot more, mainly due to the fact I am considering adding a d4 pack to my lineup...

The modifiers and light shapers are better in my opinion as well. As well as the speeding system that profoto uses.

Dynalite is great for a fraction of the price and is great to start with.

It was a bit too much skin smoothing actually  that was back when I wasn't so good at retouching skin.

Hey everyone, new to the forum (literally 5 minutes ago) and have a question about an ancient Dynalite 2000ws pack I acquired. This is one of the older D series packs and since I have a few adapter cables for my 2050 heads I'm going to give it a try but want to see if anyone has any info about this thing. It has to be 30 years old and when I called Dynalite they couldnt give me any info on it. Personally I have never even seen this pack before but would love to know its flash duration. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.
