First time outing with a model *she is also amateur in the stuff like me, *. I did not know how to arrange her in place. She did anything by herself ; I just try to focus on her eyes then shoot and shoot a lot. Look at some below please and give me your opinion, thanks in advance.

Have to be careful when a model looks down. She gets the "raccoon" eyes like in #1. Be mindful of where your light is coming from.

Canon 5D MkII gripped, Canon 7D gripped, Canon 40D gripped, Canon XTI (IR) gripped, Canon 17-55 2.8 IS, Canon 60 Macro 2.8, Canon 70-200L 2.8 IS , Canon 24-105 4.0, Tokina 11-16 2.8, Canon 50mm 1.8, Sekonic L-358, Canon Speedlite 580-EX II, (2)430-EX, Pocket Wizards, lots of other stuff that seems to keep growing...

Having a background this close allows you to be flexible with a high F number but also try to bring out the beauty of the model shooting wide open with far away backgrounds to get nicer bokeh effects.

This time I did not pay attention to the bokeh. That is the reason what I have got only one with far away background as below:

i ask because i dont know and because i dont do these types of shoots, but what do you mean? assuming one has use of a flash, wouldn't flash from below or eye-level help with the shadows?

again, this is assuming flash is on hand otherwise i have no idea and so im asking, thanks.

a little bit of this, a little bit of that

The one with far away background is good but the bokeh has enough details to be distracting... also the vertical line going behind left shoulder of model seems to break the picture (may be a crop is in the works...)

Your skill will improve as you keep shooting.

Thanks for your comment. I will try to compose more with far away background. Cheers.

If the person looks down when shooting with natural light their head casts a shadow over their eyes darkening them.

To cancel it out a reflector placed low to bounce light up will lift the shadows. A reflector is probably better than a flash as the flash will need the power reducing a lot not to over power the daylight, unless it's a bright day, which it didn't look like on the day you were shooting.

i'm not really into the claw hands, would have looked smoother if the figers were together and pressed against the tree or body... apart from that. yeah, cool

3 just looks incredibly awkward. If I took that shot I'd just scrap it. 4 just looks like a,"Quick! Smile!" shot. The background is way too busy with the people in there and her expression is just bland. The crop is also very unflattering.

I learn from most of comments such as yours that it can be better with a reflector, thanks very much.

I totally agree with your right comment. I will learn more how to shoot a subject with far away background. Thanks.

Number three looks the most interesting to me, but the green trash can to the left is very distracting.
