Hi, at the outset I must say I do realise that comparing a point and shoot to a DSLR is not intelligence, however There is a reason why I'm comparing them. Please read and suggest.
I currently own a Canon SX10IS and I must say on most occasions I'm happy with it. I started as a naive in photography and hence I wanted a camera which is simple yet at times, it allows me to play with the parametres. As of now I mostly shoot in manual mode. Now that I'm quite sure of which parametres affect what in the picture, I'm demanding more from the camera. The fact that its a point and shoot with a small sensor does not allow me to take excellent (sx10 takes good low light pictures) pictures in low light. I'm quite happy with the average low light pictures from SX10IS. Also 2.8f is less for me. I need more blur (not photoshop creativity). I loved the reach of 560 mm (35mm equv) lens of the camera.
Now the question. Given that I need a camera which takes excellant night shots / low light shots, atleast 18x to 20x zoom, very low f stop and should click well detailed pictures, at a price less than Rs 30K or $550. Is Canon EOS 1000D a good option. I dont plan to add on any more lens after the first purchase. I'm assuming I will exchange the kit lense of 18-55mm with a new during the first purchase. I have seen few pictures from my friends 1000D and I thought in good light conditions, SX10IS was better. This can also be because of the photographer (my friend) who was as amatuer as me, in photography.
Guys please help. I'm also looking at fujifilm hs20exr. whats say.
