There are some blurry spots on the image from a great deal of rain pouring down on me/the lens while taking the photo. From the size of the rain storm its amazing that I could see anything :D

Strike looked to be about 2 blocks from me. There was a closer one but I missed it on camera...its like it was fast as lightening or something ;)

Lightning is hard to capture right. Not a bad job except for the power lines and trees.

Yeah, your right. The trees arent so bad to me, but now that you point it out, the powerline is really in the way. I guess its hard to frame something you cant see in the pouring rain :D

That is true.

A quick cloning would make this a much more powerful image though. The trees are fine though. You only need to clone out the middle powerline, I think the ones on the lower part work with the image.

Do happen to have your camera settings? I'd be interested too know what your shutter speed was.

Click the flickr link, then on the right said there is a link that says "This image was taken with XXXX(Canon T1i in this case)" Click that and it will bring you to http://www.flickr.com …stvertex/5844464558/meta/ (external link) As long as the image has metadata attached it should work.

Don't clone, PLAN. ;)

Photoshop is no substitute for a little planning and a little work. IMO, a good lightning photo is a decent scenic shot that just happens to have lightning in it. Plan ahead, scout out locations from which to shoot. Keep the power lines and other junk out in the first place!

A deep $5 rubber lens hood will keep most of the rain off your lens. As always, adjust aperture/ISO to match the lightning's distance and brightness, then adjust shutter speed to control the exposure of everything else. Double check focus if using AF.

Have fun!

I can't imagine trying to shoot lightning with auto focus on

I agree with the planning....but wanted to mention a couple things....one, always focus on infinity...auto-focus is a recipe for failure...secondly, you should never have to change your ISO from 100.

I meant to say 'AF lenses.' (which will focus past infinity) It was a pre-coffee, early AM moment, so cut me some slack! :p
