This is out of the mainstream here, but dead and dessicated flowers provide interesting (to me) subjects for macro. I pulled this one out of our garden last night. 4 images, stacked with Zerene (DMap)

Thanks for the kind comments. malvizz: go for it! One of the nice things about these forums is that people can trade ideas.

I'll tell you more about how I did this one. I used two 75W incandescent reading lights (aim-able), one on each side. I use a neutral gray card to make it easy to correct the WB. I shot around f/11 for sharpness, with long exposures, a remote release, and mirror lockup. All editing was in LR. Before stacking, I did nothing but WB and set sharpening to 0. I did all other edits after stacking.

I did something similar a while back; not nearly as abstract.
