I really doubt canon's efforts on behalf of that lens is clogging the design pipeline for L's.

The 55-250 is one of Canon's best sellers and I have a feeling it's getting updated because the next batch of APS-C sensors are gonna get a big boost in performance, possibly outresolving alot of the existing EF-S lenses. Just speculation on my part but considering the improvements in resolution and DR by the competition in their latest sensors, Canon's next APS-C sensors will bring significant improvements requiring even the basic kits lenses to have better resolving power. Plus they're probably pretty cheap to update, again, pure speculation on my part.... Ken
