Canon calls their own shots -- not much we can do about it, my friend.

Keep in mind that the 50 1.8II is also a mark II lens, sometimes the "upgrade" is more about making a design that retains canon's margin on an already affordable lens. I really doubt canon's efforts on behalf of that lens is clogging the design pipeline for L's.

I wouldn't get upset over it, not much you can do about it.

From what I've read, the changes are not optical, but to reduce manufacturing costs (and therefore keep the price down). Good for consumers of that type of lens.

That update is OK with me for the simple fact that if they did upgrade something that I actually wanted it would have a much higher price than the current version and drain me of even more money.

Don't know if its the same lens your asking about,
Just bought the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS.
On sale at a great price, if the "updated 55-250IS" replaces the one I just bought,
lowering the price, then Whoo hoo :-D

I have a lot more important things to worry about and a lens is certainly nothing to get PO'd about. So, yes you just might be the only one.

Why do you get upset that they wasted their time. They didn't waste your time.

Yeah OP, you're probably the only one. The 55-250 is one of Canon's best sellers and I have a feeling it's getting updated because the next batch of APS-C sensors are gonna get a big boost in performance, possibly outresolving alot of the existing EF-S lenses. Just speculation on my part but considering the improvements in resolution and DR by the competition in their latest sensors, Canon's next APS-C sensors will bring significant improvements requiring even the basic kits lenses to have better resolving power. Plus they're probably pretty cheap to update, again, pure speculation on my part....

I wouldn't think that you would be all that high on Canon's R & D list.
I'm sure if you threw a few million their way, they might consider it for you - but it would need to be quite a FEW million.

It's always good for their R&D division to look like they're hard at work...
