My new favorite sunset. Outside of Stuttgart, Germany. Canon 5d MkII. f/11, 1/25 sec exposure.

The goal here was something pastoral - balanced, tranquil - the Serenity after the Storm, which is literally what this was.

Very nice! Great shot, I would hang it on my wall!

I love it, though I'd crop off some of the top and get rid of that little bit of red sun flare. Otherwise, it's a beautiful shot!

Oh, no! Srsly? I love the flare! They have always affirmed, for me, the authenticity of the shot. Yup, you're lookin' at the sun.

And as to the cropping, I actually cropped some of the foreground. In the unedited version, the horizon is centered. I cropped it that way because I wanted to put the horizon at the 1/3 line, providing some ballast for the composition. So it wasn't like that without a reason.

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

I agree with the crop suggestion. I feel like the fields are the focus, not the empty sky.

Ok, well, I can't argue with unanimity.

Here is the shot with the area above the sun cropped by half.

Better? Worse? No change?

I think the crop is better. Nice shot.

Apart from that big dose of flare, there's little to suggest that the sun is going down. It could be a digital thing but this looks a little too "sterile".

I'm not following you, please elaborate. The fact that the sun is withing 2 degrees of the horizon, I suppose, could sugest sunrise as well. But I don't follow how you get from there to "digital thing" and "sterile".

I'm not trying to bait you - I genuinely don't understand those terms in this context.

I just feel that there should be a little more "warmth". I don't dislike the image but this is the second perfectly competent sunset that I've come across that looks "cooler"than expected.

I like the cropped version, and agree with the others the flare does not work. It is distracting from the focal point of your sunset image.
I really like the colors, at the foreground adds to the sunset and makes this a sunset a little different than most.

just a few of my thoughts...
