I have always been a huge proponent for slideshows, there is just something about them that when done correctly draws people in. But I also hear very little about them about anymore, so I was just wondering who gives them out anymore?

I give them to my clients still. They are a lot more work than anticipated, but I really like them too. I find its a good way to show the entire day in less than 10 minutes.

Yeah I do them too. Clients also love them. I ask them for 3 songs. Usually songs that were played on their day.

Do you guys proof the images to the client this way or do they get to choose their favorites before you create the slideshow?

We used to do them when we first started up but dropped them from our packages when we realised how much work was involved in doing them well.

Since dropping them from our packages we have only had one person ask for one and they booked us even though its not something we offer any more.

I do the odd slideshow now with Animoto for promotional purposes and that's it.

I think there's so many consumer programs out there now that allow clients to create their own its difficult to justify a decent fee for one when you take into account the time it costs to create .... never mind the whole music copyright issues surrounding them.

Evan makes some pretty rad slideshows, and YES, it is a lot of work. He uses Final Cut Pro, which is great if you know how to use it, gives him complete control over the movement, placement, etc. It usually take s a good solid three to six days for him to finish, and that's if we aren't shooting much that week. It's a lot of extra work, but it's a nice surprise for our clients when they open that and a CD of images.

Using Muvee I can knock one out in about 20min or less if I already flagged the images from Lightroom, export, drop in, arrange transitions, go. Animoto gives you legal music and is simple to bang them out too and you can tag it through Facebook/Youtube, etc. which is a plus for getting more eyes on them. I like to deliver a preview slideshow a few days out from the wedding they can share all over the place as it seems to keep the momentum going, a lot of brides are digital these days and want to twitter, facebook and email everything so its just one more tool to give them what they want, the way they want.

I do not, I usually create the slide show before they see the final images anyway.

This is exactly why I pass them out and then get them to the clients as soon as I can.
