I recently bought one that has focus confirmation chip installed. I tried it on 5D II and have EG-S screen installed. Now, I can see clearly (in the viewfinder) that the beep actually occurs when target is slightly out of focus. Is there anyway to calibrate this thing? Thanks

Madhu

You can micro-adjust them if your bodies support that. What chip is it? You can get some chips that actually have MA built in themselves like the EMF chips - a bit of a pain to set up (involves a series of camera functions to change its settings) but worth it if it's needed.

I don't know exactly what chip is the one that I have - I think easier would be to just MA it on my 5D II.

I am really curious to know what is the point of these confirmation chips if they can't confirm focus properly?

You say you have the EG-S screen installed - is that new? i.e. is it the first time you've installed than screen and used a MF lens on it?

The reason I ask is that when I had a standard screen, the AF focus point and the focus through the viewfinder were the same. When I installed a new screen, the viewfinder was off but the AF was OK. I had to purchase a pack of shims and experiment until I got the viewfinder focus and auto-focus the same

Please ignore everything I've said if the screen is fine on other MF lenses

Thanks for the insight. I installed that a year back and working fine with all other lenses (when I focus manually) that I have so I guess that's not the problem.
