I recall seeing that the Japanese MSRP is 20% lower than that of 16-28mm f2.8 lens, so I think that works out to be about $650 or so. I think that's about $100 over the 12-24mm f4 II and that sounds about right to me. But I'm just guessing here.

They already did that last year with the 16-28. This is the (presumably) cheaper and smaller option.

I downloaded the images from their link and played with the images in Lr and with some processing, the images look pretty nice and sharp. I was a bit disappointed with the 16-28mm in terms of pricing as it's a bit too much for me, but this may be more tolerable for my wallet.

Release date is July for at least Japan in Canon mount and Sept. for Nikon mount.

Funny, as they normally release in Nikon mount first.

Digital picture.com confirms late July as release date for the Tokina. I wonder if it also means the USA.
Hmmm.

If it can give me the same IQ on my FF as my 11-16 gives me on my crop and the price is good it may be the lens I have been looking for. I can live with F4 if the price is right.

Ah true to Tokina's ways, it's delayed.

"Kenko-Tokina has announced that, due to defects found in component parts, production of the Tokina 17-35mm f/4 AT-X Pro FX Lens has been temporarily suspended.

The Canon mount Tokina 17-35mm f/4 AT-X Pro FX Lens is now scheduled for release at the end of August (originally late July).

The Nikon mount Tokina 17-35mm f/4 AT-X Pro FX Lens is now scheduled for release in early September (originally end of August)."

Hmmm...Will the lens work on release? They keep selling defective lenses with aperture blades that get stuck. What's up with that?:lol:

Tell me about it. Only at F4. Or my second one (also sent back, Thursday) that won't focus to infinity at 16mm and has a decentered element. Maybe the third one will actually work.

If the filter threads were 77mm, I would be interested.

I will happily get one if price is comparable to 17-40 faiL. Currently I have canon and can't wait to replace it with something sharp wide open. I had tokina 12-24mm on full frame (18-24 to be precise) and that was sharp as the sharpest thing. It's a shame I swapped it.
82mm filters sound very painful, but there is nothing better, is it? 16-28mm doesn't take filters at all, and 16-35mm f/2.8 faiL also had bad corners and distortion, and what a price!

I don't care what the price relation is to the Canon 17-40. As long as it outperforms the 17-40 (and it should), that's what I care about.

As far as UWA zooms for Canon FF that accepts filters, the lens I want is the Nikon 16-35 f/4 + converter for Canon FF. As far as I am concerned the optical performance of the Tokina 17-35 should surpass the Canon 16-35L, 17-40L, and compete directly with the Nikon 16-35 (hopefully).
