First of all I have to say I am already in love with the 7D. I won it through one of the more popular camera stores in our area and here are two attempts at candid portraits.

1st Shot) I didn't bump up the the colors, and after some consideration decided against removing some of the reds from the skin since I will be using it for wall art in my daughter's room. I think I like the pink reflection from the cotton candy on her dark skin.

2nd Shot) No editing. Just wonder if it needs to be sharper?

I don't think you got her eyes in focus, sorry to say.

As for the beach shot, I wouldn't pick sharpness as a flaw. A cardinal rule of shooting water is that it should be level 99.9999% of the time. Slanted shooting is a style that you should get over quickly. It's even worse when there's water in the picture.

Now that has to be one of the best C&C I have read on this forum! Precise and simple help on two very important points! Well done! Remind to seek you out when I need c&C!

Sorry, I should say as for the photos... I love the colour in the first however Im not so keen on such shallow dof. I can make out they are bags of fairy floss or cotton candy depending on where you live but the colours are a little lost. I love the second photo but agree - my mind is a little muddled over the slant. Makes me dizzy. But had it been straight i would have been great. Im no pro just learning so my thoughts are probably simplistic.

Thanks for the feedback... the info is helpful since i still have a lot to learn. I've been shooting for just a few months and there's so much to know.

I don't have the original file with me, but I think I may have lost the focus on the eyes when I "fixed" her 12 year old skin. Does this new version work, or does it look like it too obvious that I used the unsharp mask?
