By using the centerpoint only focus point, you would have gotten his face in focus. When you let the camera choose the focus points, it focuses wherever it chooses! Canon 5D2 > 35L-85L-135L

At first, the terms are confusing, and the results may be a little less than what you expected. (It was this way for me...) But I do like the photo, sure, focus is a bit off, but you can't do much about that. With that, it would've been a pretty decent shot. Sure, I can get finicky with composition, lighting, and crap, but hey, this was an "on-the-moment" shot. If you ever need some clarification on the new aspects of photography that come with buying a dslr, feel free to shoot me a pm. I'll do my best to explain it. And my t2i shouldn't be too different from your t3i, so I can help there too. Good Luck! -Canon T2i- -Tammy 17-50 non-VC- -50 f1.4- -100 f2.8 macro- -85 f1.8-

Jun 21, 2011 13:20 | #9 Buy the book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. That's where I started. It will help you clear up Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO speed, DoF, etc. And be careful, next thing you know you will want a couple $1000 lenses. Canon EOS M6 Mark II - EOS R5
