My Dad's Harley Road King, but sold to a friend of his. I should know the year, but forgot. I think it's a '92 with tons of mods/changes.

Taking practice shots with my 7D and 50mm f/1.8.

I'd like #1 better without the post & the background a bit out of focus (OOF). See the links in my Sig, and...

Yea, I agree. I was messing with DOF, but the closer I got to 1.8, the more blown out the pics became. I was messing with exposure compensation and ISO, but then the bike had to leave.. :(

That first shot was ISO 400, 1/125 and f/8.

If you'd selected ISO 100 and f/2 then the shutter speed would have been 1/500. You'd have gotten the same exposure with a much more shallow DOF plus the 1/500 shutter speed would have ensured there was no loss of sharpness due to movement.

Most likely the problem was that the black bike was confusing the metering system. This is where shooting in manual and using a gray card could have given better results.

The other option would have been to move the bike so that it wasn't so close to the background. having the background 15 feet away would have allowed an out of focus background and f/8 would be fine to make sure the whole bike was in focus.

That was an awesome tip, thanks!!!

I was restricted because the bike was in my Dad's driveway, the rest of his driveway was taken up by the highly customized 1992 Chevy Blazer that he got in trade for that bike. The guy he traded it to came over to help my Dad put a floor shifter in the Blazer, so there wasn't much room to move.

So a higher shutter speed would have helped? I'm glad I did have some time to mess around.

Thanks again!!!

ps. This is part of the Blazer he got in trade...

Yeah, sometimes you don't have any choice about positions and backgrounds.

So a higher shutter speed would have helped? I'm glad I did have some time to mess around.

These seem sharp enough, especially viewing the smaller web sized versions, but a faster shutter speed will generally give a sharper result.

Nice paint on that Blazer.

I will make sure to play with shutter speeds, plan to attend shows this summer.

Yea, it's a custom paint job, there's a full hydraulic kit installed on all 4 wheels, 2 10" subs and 2 huge amps in the trunk, and the doors have no handles, the locks are electronic. The rims are Boyd Coddington rims. Not bad...
