Yes the situation in Japan and weaker US dollar value have raised the prices of cameras and lenses, but, look at this: http://www.amazon.com …0665&sr=8-1&condition=new (external link) They are just being greedy! I just hope nobody buys from them!

Some Amazon "associate" dealers have had some very high scam prices far before the Japan Tsunami.

Yeah. I've seen some books in the hundred as well.

And it's supply and demand. If gear isn't being produced, the prices will be inflated.

It popped in stock from Amazon for a nanosecond for $509 a day or two ago. Maybe it's a sign that Amazon will get more soon. ;)

OK i can explain this.

There is a program for amazon users that automatically adjusts prices based on competitors prices,

it can be set to + or - a price by a set %

what happens is some one who is selling it for a fair price goes out of stock - so the others all jump to the next in stock +/- there % if they all use the same program it will cause the price to climb up and up over a peried of time it can actualy go into the millions of $

not saying this is the case here but i have whatched happen with books and other items , prices go up over and over for days

Anyone with half a brain will compare prices before jumping into a purchase. The same lens is $530 on B&H.
