Did some storm chasing last night and got a couple decent shots! First time out shooting lightning with a tripod.

Very nice! I'm always fascinated by lightning shots; it seems like there are infinite amount of shapes it can take. The foreground in the first picture looks kind of shakey, perhaps from wind blowing?

Thank you! Yeah its pretty crazy to watch in person. I was on top of my car for these photos, and it was very windy so both the car and the camera were shaking a bit. That coupled with the long exposures made some of the shots look like that

Makes sense. The actual lightning didn't turn out bad, so if something had to be shakey, it's good that it was just the foreground. ;)

We don't get much lightning like that in my area, mostly just cloud to cloud lightning which isn't too great to photograph. Keep up the good work on these, you did a great job for your first time!

Crazy. I wish we had storms like that in Oregon. At least I think I wish that.

The apeture was set to 22 for all of these photos. The first was an 88 second exposure with ISO at 640, the second photo was a 4 second exposure with 2500 ISO and the third was a 46 second exposure with 640 ISO

I love the third one. The lightning bolt on the left when it comes out of the low clouds look surreal
