i have a 5DII and a 7D (i shoot family stuff and portraiture, with baby on the way)

i want another full frame body for the times i can't change lenses (of course i'd like it to be equal to or better than the 5D2)

is the 1DSII worse than the 5DII (particularly in 3200 ISO)?

should i just get a 1DIIN?
1.3 vs 1.6 of my current 2nd body
cheaper than 1DS II
bigger LCD
i guess this is better than buying another rebel

should i get a 1DIII?
almost same price as 1DSII/used 5DII
big screen
not ancient like the mark 2's

i'm not excited to get a second 5DII ...
should i wait for the 5DIII/3D or 1D4 to drop in price?

Mike,
For less than the price of a Mk4 ( which is sold out anyway ) you can buy of of each that you listed. So buy all three, test them out and then resell that two that don't measure up ! :D

lol. i think that wouldn't go over too well with the wife.

but looking at it from another way, if i had that much money to spend right now, i'd buy the 1D4 (i think i can still get one)

it just so happens the local forum has some used bodies i don't want to miss
1DS2 less than 2k
1D2N 1200usd (mint, low actuation)

I say go with the 1DIIN. You can gain experience with a full/pro body without having too much invested in the camera system. The 1DIIN might be showing its age, but it is still a very capable camera. Here in the states, a good condition 1DIIN with sub-100K actuations can be found for $800-900.

Better except for dynamic range, which was something the Mark II cameras lack in comparison to the newer bodies. And live view and AF adjust and sensor cleaning and movie mode and ISO 6400.

Why is the 1d2n on the list, but the 1d2 isn't? You can save a good $300 with that "downgrade".

that's new and makes decision making a lot more difficult.

most of my search here on POTN says the 7D beats the 1D2N in 3200 and even in 1600.

i don't even like the 7D's 1600.

I would go with the 1D III. Definitely a great camera for it's speed and ISO capabilities.

I have just bought a mk3 - not FF but a notable difference in ISO performance over my old mk2 and the 7d.

blast. i got the go ahead from my wife for the 1d2n, but she said i shouldn't get it if i was already complaining about the 7D ISO.
one of the reason i want it is the chance to try out 1.3 and perhaps kill my "want" for a 1 series

don't you just hate it when the wife approves but you know they're just waiting to say "i told you so"

so to confirm:
1D3 > 1D2N > 1DS2?

If you already have the 5D Mark II, I would go with the 1D Mark III. It would be a great compliment to your existing FF body.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick
