I can't get good, vivid red color. Whether they are flowers, buildings ,cars etc. All the other colors are nice (blue, yellow, green) only the Red doesn't produce , what I get is pale red. Exposure is right on.
Camera: Canon 40D, all "L" lenses. Any suggestions, perhaps how the camera should be set up? Thank you for your input.

Possible reasons:

1. You're using sRGB and expecting more gamut than it delivers.
2. In fact the shots are overexposed. On Canon cameras, the red channel usually blows out first.
3. You're using an old version of Adobe's raw converter. It was my experience, and it has been that of others, that it sometimes couldn't get blue and red right at the same time. CS5 solves this problem, at least for me.

Much centres on what you mean by "pale".

The only possibility is that shots are overexposed although the histogram tells otherwise.
I will try to underexposed next time I shoot red flowers.
I use Aperture as raw converter.

Thanks for the tips.

I came on here looking for tips about overexposing the red color and found this thread. My histogram on the camera was not showing that is was blown but in Lightroom the histogram is showing that I blew out some highlights. I can't afford Photoshop right now but I do have Paint Shop Pro X3 and when I check the different color histograms it's showing that the red is blown. So maybe check the red channel histogram to make sure it's not blown. Although I would not describe my Reds as "Pale". They are way over saturated and not much detail in them. Just frustrating when I try and expose to the right and see that my histogram looks ok on camera only to upload it on lightroom 3 and see that it is in fact blown!

Hope this helps!

Bob
