Just got delivery of my Nifty Fifty, so here is my first pic taken with it, sooc, well apart from conversion from raw to jpeg. Ignore the composition, the scruffy little dog (she is called Ruby). I just wanted to test out some fairly low light stuff. I will be shooting some models in low light in a night club on Sunday, so any tips to improve my technique and processing would be immensely appreciated;

well not if it is not moving!!!!!!!!!! :lol:

i cant get clear pics of my dogs.. those 2 are FAST!!!!!!

but yes.. im wondering where the focus point was.. usually you can tell because the nose maybe in focus.. but seems the entire thing is out a bit.. maybe shot taken too close so it couldnt focus 100%??? 50mm on crop is 80mm effective right?

I didn't really want to go above ISO1600, and it was pretty dark. She won't stay still for even 1 250th of a second so grabbing focus is a nightmare. I did try to focus on the eyes, but as I said she is much more interested in sniffing things and licking her bottom than posing for the camera. At least with models they stay still when you ask them!!!
Would you in this instance say take a few shots in burst mode and hope one is in focus?
I use back button focus then re compose, good idea, bad idea?

It was taken at about a distance of 4 foot, is that too close for the focus to work 100%?

4' should be fine for AF. Yeah, i would have fired off a burst of 3 or 4 shots. Did you have it on AI Servo ?

Well there is always the chance the models will try licking their bottoms so better figure it out now.

Thanks Peter, that lake is at 9,500' and I rode my mountian bike up to it from our camp at 8,000' so had to let the heart rate drop before attempting to take shots. The approaching storm was moving in fast and I tried to capture the lightning but just not fast enough.
