Flies

Awesome fly pics as always Killer. My favorite is blue bottle. They're all super sharp but blue bottle has the best looking environment IMO.

Roger's reminded me to post a few from the other day. Great shot btw, I have never seen a female. Male friend for your female. hehe.

Nice shots Bobo. It looks like the 1st and 2nd shots could be two males having a conversation.

I edited this one tonight and liked it so I thought I'd share. I'll try to get some other shots up besides hummingbirds; I just have so many of them right now.

Perfect shot, and a great example on the rule of thirds. Keep them coming! Some day I hope to capture one the hummers in our yard. They seem so skiddish I will have to set up a blind so they don't see me.

Great series Bobo. Tried getting some cardinals the other day and they were so skittish. They are so hard to shoot. Got several of hummingbirds though. Will post a few later.

Thanks Lu and Jam.

Most birds are skittish. What works is be there first, become part of the scenery, stay calm when they arrive, no sudden movements including lifting up the camera, no talking or other distractions.

Good advise Bobo. I finally figured that out getting a few shots of these hummingbirds.

Just got delivery of my Nifty Fifty, so here is my first pic taken with it, sooc, well apart from conversion from raw to jpeg. Ignore the composition, the scruffy little dog (she is called Ruby). I just wanted to test out some fairly low light stuff. I will be shooting some models in low light in a night club on Sunday, so any tips to improve my technique and processing would be immensely appreciated;

As well as what others have said it could also be that your aperture was too large and therefore your DOF was too shallow. It looks that way to me as parts of his head are in focus and other parts aren't.
That 50mm f1.8 is great for shallow DOFs but for portraits you need to use at least f4.

Jam - nice ones. Not very hard after all eh? :)

Rolfe - just the usual common sense and decency rules.

Well I never thought I'd see a fly (?) punch a ladybird in the face. Now I've seen it all.
