It looks that way to me as parts of his head are in focus and other parts aren't. That 50mm f1.8 is great for shallow DOFs but for portraits you need to use at least f4. I think it is a combination of all these things, but having just used the Depth Of Field calculator my DOF on the shot was about 24mm, so after taking focus (using the back button) then recomposing slightly she will obviously have moved a little bit.
