The pros aren't using telephoto f1.8 lenses because they don't exist as far as I know.
One good example of a long telephoto f/1.8 lens was the Canon 200mm f/1.8 lens,
which has been out for production for years. Its replacement is the Canon 200mm f/2 IS lens.
Canon makes a few very fast lenses in the 85-135mm range.
Of course, the standard low-light telephoto lens is a 70-200mm f/2.8, which typically works well in situations such as these, where a Sigma version of the lens was mounted to a T2i.
