What I am missing is a good low light lens so any additional leses will be 1.8 or faster!

The 85mm 1.8 is on my list of lenses to get ...... and it is quite a long list!!

Peter $950 is a great price if it's in good condition has the collar, hood & case, never seen one that low on Ebay or on CL. I hope you can work it out as I am having a lot of fun with mine.

For those considering this lens, keep in mind it's fairly slow, to keep the shutter speed above 1/400 at F7.1 or higher (when shooting hand held) you need good light, if it's at all shady or low light conditions you have to push the ISO up in the 800 to 1600 range. But I find the T2i can handle that easily and I see almost no noise. My copy is tack sharp at F7.1 and up even at 400mm.

I can't wait for some auto races in 2012, surfing and of course the air shows, this lens will be perfect for those events. My 70-200 is a great lens but there is quite a difference adding the extra 200mm as you don't have to crop as much thereby losing resolution. This lens opened up a whole new world of photography for me and I found I really enjoy birding.

This will be my last purchase for quite a while as I've spent a lot since June on this hobby. I feel I have a good assortment to get what I need, might even adjust some as I find I may not use some lenses as much as I thought I would. What I am missing is a good low light lens so any additional leses will be 1.8 or faster!

Naw, you can't be done for the year. Wouldn't a filter help out with all that moist air haze between your 400 and the bird? ;)

Ignore the composition, ignore the exposure, ignore the focus, and most of all ignore the mess, but ....... a quick shot taken hand holding the flash in the upper left ..... I have tried a little experiment where the flash is almost hidden from view and it still works .... the next experiment is to see how far away I can trigger the flash ..... there is a perfect rundown abandoned old ruin near me that would be perfect for taking shots with the flash pointing upwards ..... I am so excited it is just like xmas ......

Thanks T2i for sharing your input with that lens and I am glad you are happy with it.....Yeah it is a good price for 950.00 no doubt but tried to work it out but no can do he he he. Me I am destined to let it go for now hopefully in a near future I could see same price.

Luckily it came with a Heliopan UV hard coated filter, so no need to buy one!

Peter, I project the 100-400mm to come down in price as more used ones become availabe when the new version comes out so you will find better deals in the future. You take great shots with what you have so keep it up.

how did I do? now something to realize.. this was a ... QUICK GET CAMERA ON and LENS CAP OFF.. quick aim and shoot b4 they drove by.. my kids on the back of the tractor...
so it isnt the greatest picture as in getting the exposure... but it was the candid shot of my son not knowing I was taking his pic..

i used adobe photoshop elements 9....

funny thing is normally i would crop in.. and you guys are helping me to learn.. it isnt all about the closeup... so in this situation... zoomed out works better... than in... cuz then you dont see the imperfections.. and i know printed it probably looks great...

now when i was trying LR.. it did seem to do somethings better.. but remember i try and do jpg... just this time i forgot.. and now i HAVE to do a RAW!!!! GAHHH
