Took this at the local lake last evening, had to bump the ISO way up to get a high enough shutter speed to hand hold as it was just at sunset and shooting toward a dark background. The 100-400 is sharp but sloooooow.

Wow what is the focal length on this one. Looks amazing.. Can't believe I missed it

U know what's a real amazing engine or engine line? The GEnx line. Super powerful an extremely efficient and very easy to take apart to repair. We work in some of the engine components but I never seen one put together. I do remember seeing a pic somewhere, where a crew of 7 men had their pic taken sitting in front of the fan blades on the engine housing. Huge engine and huge fan blades. Id love to see one in person. Just look at its size
QUOTED IMAGE
There are other models slightly bigger. But wow I just think they are amazing.

Whoa......that is so cool, I want to be beside that engine.....

I have not used continuous lighting for a while now. Actually since getting in to flash photography using my cowboy studio wireless triggers and my 3 flashes.

now i thought of going with just remote flashes vs the continuous lighting but the instructor said that continuous is easier than flash.. you have to guess on the light with flash.. so now you got me questioning what to get.. grrr.. i could get 2 more YN's, wireless triggers, umbrellas and stands.. and be done.. or go with a continuous kit... hmmmm

Nice shot! I think the exif viewer said you were at 1/50th, f/7.1, and ISO 800. Is that correct or is my exif viewer lying to me? 1/50th of a second is dang good IS to get a nice sharp image like that. The t2i does decent at ISO1600 if you get the exposure correct...that might allow you to get your shutter speed up a bit. Still a very nice shot T2i4me!

I think that's correct, I took about 5 shots before he flew away and only 1 of the 5 was sharp. I did boost up to 1600 just minutes later as it got darker but the shots were rather grainy in my opinion.

T2i - lovely bird pic. Goes to show what good glass can do. As Troy said, take it to 1600. Our camera can handle that pretty well.

Wow amazing lens able to be that sharp at such great focal length. One of the beauties of the L lenses. Nice job

I'm no instructor but the reason I choose flash photography is because I felt continuous lighting was not potent enough. Plus with the kit provided I was not able to adjust the lighting. Basically continuous lighting gave me a " what you see is what you get" kinda feel. Not much flexibility. Honestly think its a personal preference on what u want to use really. Its just for me i think flash photography is better. Let me get on pc so I can post some of my old CL pics.

Yeah, I've done some CL and didn't find it to be anywhere near as good.

Flash is pretty easy once you get used to it. It will be the same with flash and continuous- will take you a few months of practising to get used to your equipment and find that sweet spot, but once you do and you understand the power ratios etc, then you're laughing.

Plus if you then want to start using flash out of your studio and in "the real world", you know more about how your equipment works and will have a much better time with it. That's just my opinion though.

what is a good starter kit for lighting......below 250.00 this is only for fun by taking pics of my kids in our hometheater....Digital your idea of converting my hometheater for a temporary studio is a little by little becoming a reality....talked to my wife about it when you posted that idea and now she want's me buy something like cowboy studio starter kit only for practice and for my kids portraits....I am excited and would like to find out what you guys can recommend.

As of this time I am looking at the threads for flash and studio lighting section.

agreed.. i feel also that with flash photogrpahy the pics come out sharper then CL.. here is a few i shot in the begining about one year ago.. keep in mind though. I DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME AS MUCH AS I KNOW NOW.

As of this time I am looking at the threads for flash and studio lighting section.

250 is a tight budget, but this is in the ballpark.

I'd go:

2x light stand http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1323471717&sr=8-8 (external link)
2x YN560 (they've just released a new version, couldn't see any links for it. Has a screen) http://www.ebay.com …m45fe4703a7#ht_4198wt_854 (external link)

Then for triggers, youre looking at something like cactus 5 or the yongnuo ones. Or cowboy studio.

That setup isn't limited to your home studio then, fully portable. For studio you'd obviously want backdrops etc as well.
