250 is a tight budget, but this is in the ballpark.

I'd go:

2x light stand http://www.amazon.com …TF8&qid=1323471717&sr=8-8 (external link)
2x YN560 (they've just released a new version, couldn't see any links for it. Has a screen) http://www.ebay.com …m45fe4703a7#ht_4198wt_854 (external link)

Then for triggers, youre looking at something like cactus 5 or the yongnuo ones. Or cowboy studio.

That setup isn't limited to your home studio then, fully portable. For studio you'd obviously want backdrops etc as well.

This is basically my set up. The yn560 are awesome flashes and Peter in your theater room will be perfect because you have depth in that room. Which in reality you don't really need having the correct lenses but for a person like me who have no distance or depth I have to use my 18-55mm most of the time. And usually my focal length is inthe mid 20s. This is why I want that 24-70 so bad. Perfect to work in my conditions and also the fact that it's an L lens. Super sharp, for now I do the best I can with what I got.

Marlfox recommendations are perfect also try to invest in 1or2 5-1 reflectors. They do come in handy to fill them lil annoying shadows.

Hey Marlfox
When you say new version is it because the new ones have the metal hot shoe. Those are the ones I have. I know older versions have plastic hot shoe. I read sonething about this a while back.

It also has an LCD display on the back of it:

Looks like the new price is double the old one though. It only came out a few weeks ago.

In theory, if you have a 430 already, you're good to go. One strobe gives great results when done right. You can just get a long ettl cable or wireless transmitters and you're set. Having two strobes is just personal preference as it allows you more creative control.

In theory, all you need is the $40 light stand, triggers and a background and you have a great starting kit :)

And those yongnuo ones are basically the 430 without the ettl...just $80 instead of $250.
